Chuanxiong is a traditional Chinese medicine and is recommended to be used under the guidance of a professional Chinese medicine practitioner. It is usually taken in a decoction of water with a dosage of 3 to 10g. Rhizoma Chuanxiong is pungent in flavor and warm in nature, and is attributed to the liver, gallbladder and pericardium meridians. It has the efficacy of dispelling wind and relieving pain, promoting circulation of qi and activating blood circulation. It is often used together with Panax ginseng and saffron to treat heart stasis (obstruction of the heart veins by blood stasis) and chest pain; it is often used together with peach kernel and safflower to treat blood stasis in the chest and stabbing pain in the chest and ribs; it is also used together with wu zhu zhi and gui zhi to treat coldness and deficiency of the Chong and Ren veins (Yang qi deficiency that cannot warm the Chong and Ren veins), menstrual disorders of stasis and obstruction of menstruation, and menstrual cramps. In addition, this product is an important medicine for headache, and can be used in combination with other medicines for all headaches, no matter whether they are caused by wind-cold, wind-dampness, wind-heat, blood deficiency, blood stasis and other reasons. Since this product is pungent and warm, it should not be used for headache with yin deficiency and hyperactivity of yang; it should be used with caution for excessive sweating and menstruation. When discomfort occurs, it is necessary to consult a doctor in time and choose medication under the guidance of physician’s diagnosis, and not to use medication on one’s own in order to avoid delaying the condition.
