Scapular asymmetry may be caused by certain conditions such as congenital scapular hypoplasia and scoliosis. It may also be caused by physiological factors. Commonly used treatments include physical therapy and surgery.
1. Congenital scapular hypoplasia: congenital deformity of scapular development, resulting in structural asymmetry. Patients can maintain the mobility of shoulder joint through passive traction and other exercises, or they can choose scapular subluxation, in which the trapezius and rhomboid muscles are cut off and peeled off from the starting point of spinal spinous attachments, thus relieving the symptoms.
2. Scoliosis: Changes in the shape of the spine will break the symmetry and balance around the shoulder girdle, making the muscle tension around the shoulder unbalanced and causing scapular asymmetry. Mild cases can be treated by wearing orthopedic appliances, while patients with severe symptoms need to undergo surgery, such as hemilaminectomy, growth rods and minimally invasive navigation surgery.
3. Physiological factors: Bad habits in daily life, such as sitting in a crooked position for a long time, may also lead to scapular asymmetry. It is necessary to correct the bad sitting posture, and surgical intervention is not required.
It is recommended that patients seek medical advice in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
