How to tell if it’s radiculopathy

You can tell if you have radicular cervical spondylosis by the symptoms and test results. 1. Symptoms (1) Typical symptoms of radiculopathy are recurrent pain and stiffness in the neck and shoulders, and some patients’ symptoms worsen when they cough or take a deep breath during neck activities. (2) Neurogenic cervical spondylosis can compress the nerves, leading to symptoms such as radiating pain, weakness and numbness in the upper limbs, which are obviously related to the position and posture of the neck, and the patient may also experience heaviness in the upper limbs, loss of grip strength, and in severe cases, it is difficult to complete the grasping movement. 2.Examination (1) Physical examination: the patient’s neck mobility will be examined, and the brachial plexus pulling test can be performed, such as holding the patient’s neck with one hand and spreading the patient’s arm with the other hand, which will result in radiating pain or numbness in the upper limbs. (2) Imaging examination: CT or MRI can be performed, which can show the lesions of the spinal cord and the contour of the spinal cord, and can see the protruding discs compressing the nerve roots to make a clear diagnosis. If the diagnosis of nerve root cervical spondylosis is confirmed through the examination, it should be actively treated. It is recommended to pay attention to the warmth of the neck, correct the posture of standing and sitting, and properly carry out neck exercises.
