Do eye injuries repair themselves?

Whether or not an eye injury can recover on its own is related to the severity of the injury. Mild injuries have the potential to recover on their own, whereas severe tissue injuries generally do not recover on their own. If the damage to the eye is minor, such as a corneal epithelial defect, it may recover on its own because the corneal epithelium itself has a relatively strong ability to heal itself. However, some patients may have corneal infections caused by damage to the corneal barrier after the abrasion, which require medication and cannot be repaired on their own. If the eye suffers from more serious trauma, such as eye rupture injury, eye penetrating injury, etc., usually can not be repaired by themselves, the patient needs to go to the ophthalmology department of the hospital as soon as possible, through the emergency surgery for treatment, otherwise there is a risk of ocular contents out of the eye, endophthalmitis and other complications. It is recommended that patients with traumatic eye injuries seek medical attention in a timely manner to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
