What does intermittent rage disorder mean?

Intermittent rage disorder is a type of impulse control disorder. Patients often become violent over small things, such as a word or an opposing opinion, and their emotions cannot be well controlled. The level of violence may escalate, starting with verbal threats or verbal abuse, then damage to property, and finally harm to people, especially relatives and friends. Afterwards, the patient has no emotional experience of remorse or guilt, so the patient does not reflect on or modify his or her habits. Patients often have personality traits such as quick temper, impatience, and may be self-centered.
