After drinking alcohol, it is recommended that NSAIDs such as diclofenac sodium be taken after an interval of 10 to 20 hours, and avoidance of alcohol is recommended for use of this medication.
Consumption of alcohol, or concomitant use with other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen extended-release capsules, may increase gastrointestinal adverse effects and may lead to peptic ulcers. Alcohol takes about 10 to 20 hours to metabolize in the body, and it is recommended that NSAIDs such as diclofenac sodium be taken after alcohol has metabolized.
Attention should also be paid to the presence of contraindications to NSAIDs such as diclofenac sodium. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to drug components, perioperative period of coronary artery bypass grafting surgery, presence of gastrointestinal tract injuries such as gastrointestinal hemorrhage, perforation, ulceration, severe heart failure, and children under one year of age. Note that diclofenac sodium should not be used concurrently with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
