Congenital heart disease is the primary congenital defect that causes premature death in children. 150,000 to 200,000 new patients with congenital heart disease are born in China every year, and 8-10 out of every 1,000 newborns suffer from congenital heart disease. Many parents are often overwhelmed and nervous when they find their children have suspected symptoms of congenital heart disease. Experts remind parents that they should take their children to the hospital for a comprehensive checkup if they suspect that their children have precocious heart disease, and not to panic or blindly think that their children have a cold or pneumonia, and buy their own medicine to treat their children. So, when you get to the hospital, what tests are generally done? 1. Routine auscultation Cardiothoracic auscultation is often the first step in discovering a child’s disease. Many doctors also find the murmur first based on the auscultation, and then more sure of the child’s condition. Therefore, when we go to the hospital, the first thing is to do cardiac auscultation and tell the doctor the relevant history of cold, pneumonia, asthma, etc., which will facilitate the subsequent examination and treatment. 2.Electrocardiogram As the main and most basic examination means of heart diseases, ECG can suggest characteristic changes of certain congenital heart diseases, such as severe left deviation of electrical axis suggesting endocardial cushion defect; left deviation of electrical axis and left ventricular hypertrophy suggesting tricuspid atresia, or right ventricular dysplasia and pulmonary artery atresia, etc. 3, chest X-ray is also the main way to diagnose congenital heart disease in clinical practice. In addition, chest X-ray can check the general shape of the child’s heart and make a preliminary judgment of the child’s condition, such as egg-shaped heart usually indicates transposition of the great arteries and boot-shaped heart indicates tetralogy of Fallot. 4, echocardiography Experts have introduced that echocardiography is currently the most effective means of diagnosing congenital heart disease in clinical practice. It includes M-mode ultrasound, two-dimensional ultrasound, color Doppler ultrasound, etc. For newborns, it can diagnose various heart, large vessel and coronary artery malformations, and determine cardiac function and pulmonary artery pressure because of the clear images displayed. 5.Cardiac catheterization and cardiovascular angiography are mainly used for arteriovenous bypass and distal pulmonary artery dysplasia that cannot be seen by echocardiography. However, they are not as widely used as echocardiography in clinical practice. Currently, cardiac catheterization and cardiovascular angiography are more often used for treatment, such as early neonatal atrial septal fistula and arterial catheter occlusion. At present, the incidence of congenital heart disease in China is high and the prevention and treatment situation is very serious. Pediatric cardiac surgery experts point out that there are many types of congenital heart disease clinically, and the number of congenital heart disease found has reached hundreds, each disease due to its own pathological characteristics, may not be the same test method, but the discovery of abnormalities in children, timely hospital consultation is a must, this parents must keep in mind.
