Lumbar hemangioma is a common benign tumor of the vertebral body that occurs mostly in young adults. The pathology of hemangioma that appears in the lumbar spine manifests as a large number of proliferating capillaries, as well as dilated blood sinuses. This kind of lumbar vertebral hemangioma, in general, does not have clinical symptoms and does not require treatment. However, if the hemangioma occupies a larger portion of the vertebral volume, it will cause a decrease in the firmness of the vertebral body and make it prone to fracture, and this is when treatment is required. Surgery can be used to restore the firmness of the vertebral body by injecting bone cement into the hemangioma to avoid fracture and cause nerve compression symptoms, or radiotherapy can be used to cause atrophy of the hemangioma due to endothelial damage.
