Can I eat before stomach cancer surgery?

The diet of gastric cancer surgery is decided according to the condition, firstly, to determine whether there is obstruction in the pylorus. Usually, patients with obstruction cannot eat. Gastric lavage and gastric tube should be left in place 3 days before surgery to eliminate edema of stomach wall, so as to facilitate reconstruction of digestive tract after resection and reduce gastrointestinal anastomotic fistula. If the patient has no pylorus obstruction he can eat, mainly choosing easily digestible food and abstaining from water and food for 8 hours before surgery. However, with the promotion of the concept of rapid recovery surgery, some gastric surgeries can be performed with oral sugar water 3 hours before surgery.
