Is herpes still contagious after it heals?

Common clinical herpes include herpes zoster, herpes simplex, and genital herpes. Herpes zoster is not contagious after treatment; herpes simplex is much less contagious than genital herpes and is less likely to recur; genital herpes is clinically cured when systemic symptoms, lesions, local pain, sensory abnormalities, and swollen lymph nodes all disappear after treatment. However, genital herpes is prone to recurrence, especially within a year after the initial infection, and tends to decrease as the disease progresses. Patients with clinical episodes have subclinical or asymptomatic detoxification, but subclinical infections and asymptomatic detoxification of genital herpes do not require treatment, but are somewhat infectious, and most sexual or vertical transmission of genital herpes occurs during subclinical or asymptomatic detoxification.
