What is a knee replacement?

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA): Artificial joint replacement has been called one of the greatest inventions of the twentieth century. This procedure has saved thousands of patients suffering from joint diseases, restoring normal joint function, reducing pain and improving quality of life.TKA is the application of high-technology artificial prosthesis to replace the knee joint, thus improving the deformity, limited movement or pain of the knee joint caused by rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthrosis, trauma, and compulsory spondylitis. The artificial knee joint was designed on the basis of advanced metal manufacturing, biomaterials, biomechanics and orthopaedic surgery. Due to the advent of new materials, improvements in prosthesis design, orthopedic techniques and anesthesia methods, artificial knee replacements are being used for more diseases and in a wider age range, while an increasing number of patients are undergoing joint replacement surgery. Indications: Severe joint pain, instability, deformity, and severe limitation of daily life and activities, which are ineffective or not significant by conservative treatment. 1. joint dysfunction caused by osteoarthritis 2. severe rheumatoid arthritis 3. traumatic arthritis 4. joint destruction caused by ankylosing spondylitis 5. resting tuberculous arthritis Contraindications: any active infection of the systemic or local joints is an absolute contraindication, and surgery is not recommended for muscle paralysis around the knee. Young age, obesity, severe deformity, and severe osteoporosis are not contraindications to surgery.
