If the lump is caused by trauma, it is usually a local hematoma, which can be treated with local heat or physical therapy to help the lump subside. However, if the lump is large or if there is significant pain, it should be seen in a hospital and, if necessary, treated by excision under local anesthesia. If the sebaceous cyst is considered to be caused by infection, topical anti-inflammatory medications such as iodophor or Bactrim should be applied locally, and oral antibiotics should be taken if necessary, and when the infection improves, the infected tissue should be removed under local anesthesia and then sutured.
