How effective is conservative treatment of megacolon

Most patients with megacolon have poorer results with conservative treatment, but some patients with ultrashort megacolon have better results with conservative treatment options.
Common type megacolon, long segment megacolon, total colon type megacolon, and total bowel type megacolon are less effective in conservative treatment due to the wide range of ganglion cell-free bowel segments, and usually need to be treated by surgical procedures such as prolapsed recto-colonic resection and colectomy.
Patients with ultrashort megacolon have a ganglion cell-free bowel segment located in the middle and distal part of the rectum, which is smaller in scope, and can generally be treated through conservative treatment such as anal dilation, anal defecation training and dietary adjustments, and most of the patients have a good prognosis.
It is recommended that patients go to a specialized hospital as early as possible, and choose the appropriate treatment plan under the guidance of the doctor.
