What’s with the swollen eyes and face?

Patients presenting with swollen eyes and face may be associated with orbital cellulitis, hypothyroidism, nephrotic syndrome, heart failure and other causes.
1. Orbital cellulitis: Patients with orbital cellulitis may experience discomfort such as redness of the eyelids and swelling of the face, accompanied by fever and other discomforts under the stimulation of inflammation.
2. Hypothyroidism: Hypothyroidism patients may have mucous edema of the head and face due to the decrease of thyroid hormone concentration in the blood, which is mainly manifested as edema of the face and eyelids.
3. Nephrotic syndrome: due to renal insufficiency, metabolites and excess water in the body can not be discharged in a timely manner, resulting in sodium retention in the body, resulting in eyelid and facial edema, which can also be accompanied by lower limb edema.
4. Cardiopulmonary insufficiency: patients with heart failure and other cardiac insufficiency diseases, because of the obstruction of venous blood reflux, can cause venous blood to accumulate in the interstitial space of the tissues, resulting in eyelid and facial edema.
It is recommended that patients with significant eye and facial edema seek prompt medical attention to assess their condition and treat them under the guidance of a physician.
