The Dangers of Misaligned Teeth

Having white and straight teeth is something that everyone looks forward to. In ancient times, there were “bright eyes and white teeth”, which means that the pursuit of beautiful teeth is a goal that people have always pursued. However, some people have uneven teeth due to congenital or acquired factors. The dental misalignment often leads to the teeth, jaws, craniofacial deformities, is one of the three major dental diseases of mankind, then the dental misalignment are harmful? 1, affect mental health: here I will say a little story, my little patient, 8 years old, is his mother brought to see the teeth, to see the teeth when he did not dare to open his mouth, because the upper jaw teeth have a warped outside the lips, has been covering the mouth, his mother is very anxious to say, “Dr. Sun, my child’s teeth can be corrected, now the child is afraid to speak, has been covering the mouth. He is too embarrassed to answer questions in class, and his classmates joke about his teeth all day long, and his personality is a bit withdrawn. Later, I spent only two months to get the child’s teeth completely straightened in place. The parents finally said this to me, “If I had known that I could correct it, we would have come to correct it”. I heard both happy and sad, happy is to affirm my efforts, sad is that there are still many parents do not understand the timing of orthodontics, the awareness of oral health care is weak. Because of the damage to the facial image caused by misaligned teeth, it also has a serious impact on the psychology of young people. Students with misaligned teeth can easily become the target of teasing and taunting by their classmates at school. I don’t want to affect the child’s character for life because of uneven teeth, in fact, these we orthodontists can change, we are the angels who create beauty and shape perfection! 2, affect the periodontal tissue health and oral hygiene: in layman’s terms, is not neatly aligned teeth, when brushing can not brush very thoroughly and clean, so that there will be dead space, over time, a large number of tartar accumulation, causing tooth decay as well as loosening and falling off, not to lose teeth in advance of the time, so the cost is really a little big, but there are many people do not recognize the seriousness of this problem. In other words, if the teeth are more neatly aligned and brushed, then the goal we were fighting for can be achieved, the goal is “80.20”, meaning that when we are 80 years old there are still 20 teeth in the mouth that can be used, how far is our dental dream? Leave it to us to think about it slowly. 3, affect facial growth and development: In a sense, orthodontics is dental beauty, but also cosmetic surgery. The mother of the child said she found that the child’s face was getting more and more crooked day by day, and took out the previous photos for me to see. But luckily, it is still possible to correct the jaw through orthodontic treatment. After six months of hard work, the child’s bite is now very good, the jaw is correct, the face is full, the parents are very satisfied, said at first thought that there is no rush to replace the teeth, wait for the replacement of teeth before the whole. This is one of the misconceptions of many parents that all teeth should be fixed after the replacement of teeth, and that early intervention should be done for the treatment of enameled teeth, buck teeth and small chins. This must be paid attention to, once the teeth are set, the bones miss the best orthodontic period, then it is too late to regret. 4, affect the health of the whole body: crowded teeth caused by the dental arch bite area is reduced, reducing the efficiency of chewing teeth, commonly known as others eat an apple with 3 minutes, bad bite can use 10 minutes, or even longer, and sometimes not chewed, affecting the function of the stomach, over time may cause gastrointestinal disease and other systemic diseases. Some will also affect the pronunciation, which we often say “teeth running wind”. For the upper lip is very protruding people, it is easy to occur dental trauma. When the most curved tooth hits the ground first, it is sure to be injured. The function of our teeth is just two, one is aesthetic needs, a functional needs. Then we orthodontics that is the goal of orthodontics is also aesthetic and functional balance, both complement each other. Many orthodontic patients will tell me that their teeth are more beautiful than before, and that eating is faster and more comfortable. These words can only be deeply felt after first-hand experience. Let’s feel the beauty and experience it together. Beautiful teeth are all around us, if you want to love it, get close to it, if you want to have it, experience it!
