What does a fuller pharyngeal crypt mean?

Fuller pharyngeal crypt indicates the presence of inflammation or swelling, which may be triggered by nasopharyngeal cancer, acute pharyngolaryngitis, chronic pharyngolaryngitis and so on.
1. Nasopharyngeal cancer: pharyngeal saphenous fossa is in nasopharynx, which is a longitudinal deep fossa, located between the posterior aspect of the rounded cushion of the Eustachian tube and the posterior wall of the pharynx, and it is a favorable site for nasopharyngeal cancer.
2. Inflammation of the pharynx causes swelling of the mucous membrane of the pharynx, resulting in the deep groove of the pharyngeal crypt not being obvious, which is manifested as fullness of the pharyngeal crypt. It can be seen in acute and chronic pharyngitis.
(1) Acute pharyngolaryngitis: it occurs in winter and spring, mostly due to viral infection. It can be secondary to acute rhinitis, acute tonsillitis and other diseases. It can also be seen in bacterial infections such as streptococcus, staphylococcus, and streptococcus pneumoniae infections. Inappropriate use of voice can also cause acute laryngitis.
(2) Chronic pharyngolaryngitis: acute pharyngolaryngitis can be caused by factors such as prolonged pharyngolaryngitis, long-term allergen stimulation, excessive smoking and alcohol consumption, nasal secretion stimulation, gastric acid reflux, chronic tonsillitis, and so on.
It is recommended that patients consult a doctor in time to check the cause and condition, and actively cooperate with the physician for treatment.
