Side effects of bone cement

Bone cements may have adverse complications, or side effects, when they are used. There are several common ones as follows: 1. It may cause necrosis of the surrounding bone. Some bone cements may produce relatively high temperatures during the solidification process. This temperature can be tolerated by most of the body tissues, but if the surrounding bone tissues are severely damaged, it may lead to partial tissue necrosis. 2. It may cause rejection of the body, most of the bone cements are biocompatible, but of course, it cannot be excluded that a small number of patients may have a rejection reaction to such internal implants, which may lead to loosening of the bone cement. 3. After the cement is inserted, the pressure inside the medullary cavity may increase due to the solidification of the cement, which may cause the fat particles inside the medullary cavity to flow back into the blood, which may lead to serious complications such as fat embolism. 4. The bone cement may also shed small debris and enter the blood, which may form foreign bodies in the blood vessels or even form emboli.
