A fracture of the distal right fibula can be treated conservatively if it is not serious, or surgically if it is serious.
Fibula fracture, if the fracture is not serious (transverse, oblique fracture, not accompanied by important blood vessels and nerves injury, etc.), conservative treatment can be used. The main way of conservative treatment is to immobilize the fracture in plaster for 2~3 months, and can also be combined with the elevation of the affected limb to reduce edema.
If the fracture is comminuted, accompanied by important vascular and nerve injuries, surgical treatment is required. Surgical treatment mainly consists of internal fixation with incision and reduction of the plate. After surgery, the fracture is immobilized in a cast for a period of time (about 2 months). However, during the period of cast immobilization, rehabilitation exercises should be carried out under the supervision of the doctor. The main exercises are ankle joint exercises and isometric contraction exercises for lower limb muscles, which can prevent joint stiffness and lower limb venous thrombosis.
