The correct steps of CPR for a drowning person are clearing the airway, chest compressions, and artificial respiration.
1. Clearing the airway: when someone is found to be drowning, after lifting the person to the shore, in order to prevent foreign objects in the mouth, which will affect the subsequent treatment, the patient’s head should be tilted to the side, and the foreign objects in the patient’s mouth should be taken out with the fingers.
2. Chest compression: this method is the most important step to rescue the patient, overlap the hands, the root of the palm is placed in the middle and lower 1/3 of the patient’s sternum, the depth of the compression is 5-6cm, the frequency of the compression is 100-120 times/minute, and artificial respiration is carried out after 30 times of the compression.
3. Artificial respiration: Artificial respiration is performed immediately after 30 chest compressions, one hand pinches the patient’s nostrils, the other hand is placed on the patient’s chin, so that the patient’s head is tilted back as far as possible, to keep the airway open, and continuously blowing for 2 times, each blowing for a length of about 1.5 seconds, and the patient’s thorax can be observed to have a rise and fall.
When you find someone drowning or fainting, you should resuscitate them immediately and then call the emergency number.
