What to do about generalized edema in the elderly

Generalized edema in the elderly requires immediate medical attention, examination to clarify the cause and treatment. The causes include heart failure, renal failure, hypoproteinemia, hypothyroidism, etc. Different causes lead to different treatments, mainly including medication and dialysis.
1. Heart failure: if there is a history of myocardial infarction, valvular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc., it will lead to cardiac insufficiency in the late stage, resulting in stagnation of the circulation, edema will occur, and in severe cases of generalized edema, which requires immediate hospitalization, examination to clarify the condition, and active diuretic, stabilization of cardiac function and other treatments, commonly used drugs are digoxin, furosemide, androstenol, trimethoprim, and so on.
2. Renal failure: some old people, kidney function gradually impaired aggravated, serious generalized edema, need active drug treatment, such as antitussin, furosemide, and so on, and even dialysis.
3. Hypoproteinemia: the elderly gastrointestinal function is weakened, prone to malnutrition, hypoproteinemia, osmotic pressure problems occurring generalized edema, the need for active supplementation of nutrients, or even static albumin to correct hypoproteinemia.
4. Hypothyroidism: when hypothyroidism occurs, the patient will have mucous edema, severe generalized edema, and should be actively given medication.
Generalized edema in the elderly is generally more serious, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time for active treatment.
