In today’s society, many people complain about tiredness, tired of work, tired of studying, tired of family, tired of crowded buses, tired of driving, tired of going to work, tired of going off work, tired of looking forward to a vacation to sleep, wake up not relieved, or tired. What is wrong with us, is this tiredness a normal reaction or a disease? Here we have to be careful, maybe in the unconscious, chronic fatigue syndrome has gradually approaching. Let’s get to know chronic fatigue syndrome first. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a disease with severe and persistent fatigue as its main manifestation. Patients’ daily life is seriously affected by extreme fatigue and they are unable to work or study for a long time, which brings great pressure to society, families and individuals. Since the diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome was first proposed by the Centers for Disease Control in 1988, the incidence of CFS has gradually increased in the past 20 years as the pace of social life has accelerated, and its adverse effects on human life have attracted more and more attention, becoming a social disease. The situation is particularly serious among people with high work intensity and high productivity creation, such as brain workers and management personnel, and thus has a great impact on the development of social productivity. Theories about the etiology of CFS currently exist such as viral infection, immune factors, and excessive tryptophan uptake, but none of them can fully explain the onset of CFS. Therefore, the diagnosis of the disease relies mainly on clinical symptoms. The internationally accepted criteria for the diagnosis of CFS were revised by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in 1994 and are now widely adopted. Treatment for the disease is still in the exploratory stage, and to date, no satisfactory pharmacological treatment is available. According to the theory of Chinese medicine, the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome are caused by the deficiency of internal organs and the dysregulation of qi mechanism. It is a disease with impaired function of multiple systems and must be treated holistically. The following are the diagnostic criteria for CFS revised by the CDC in 1994 1. Chronic fatigue that cannot be explained clinically, with a clear starting point, not the result of continuous exertion, and which cannot be significantly relieved by rest, resulting in a significant decrease in the level of work, study, social life or personal activity; 2. have persisted or recurred for 6 months or longer, but should not precede fatigue: a. Significant decrease in short-term memory or ability to concentrate; b. Sore throat; c. Swollen, tender lymph nodes in the neck or axilla; d. Muscle pain; e. Pain in multiple joints without redness or swelling; f. A headache that is different from the previous, severe; g. Sleep that cannot be relieved; h. Fatigue after exercise lasting more than 24 hours. CFS is considered when the above 2 criteria are met and other organic diseases are excluded.
