How to read the glucose tolerance report card

Glucose tolerance test report card mainly looks at whether the results of 3 or 5 tests after taking sugar are higher than normal, fasting blood glucose ≤6.1mmol/L, 0.5-1 hour after taking sugar <11.1mmol/L, 2 hours after taking sugar ≤7.8mmol/L, and blood glucose returns to the level of fasting blood glucose 3 hours after taking sugar. Glucose tolerance test is the main test used clinically to screen for diabetes and gestational diabetes. Firstly, fasting blood glucose is tested, and then sugar water containing 75 grams of glucose is drunk according to the doctor's requirement, and the calculation time is counted from the first sip of sugar water, and blood is drawn for the test at 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 hours after drinking sugar water respectively. The glucose tolerance test report card mainly looks at whether the results of the three tests are normal or not. Normal fasting blood glucose is ≤6.1mmol/L, 0.5-1 hours after taking sugar is generally 7.8-9.0mmol/L, it should be <11.1mmol/L, and it should be ≤7.8mmol/L for 2 hours, and the blood glucose is restored to the level of fasting blood glucose for 3 hours after taking sugar. Fasting blood glucose of 6.1-7.0 mmol/L is considered impaired fasting blood glucose, and ≥7.0 mmol/L is the diagnostic criterion for diabetes mellitus. A blood glucose value of 7.8-11.1 mmol/L 2 hours after taking sugar was considered impaired glucose tolerance, and ≥11.1 mmol/L was the diagnostic criterion for diabetes mellitus. Impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance are both prediabetic. It is recommended to combine with the endocrinologist's opinion to make a comprehensive judgment.
