High 24-hour urine microprotein is indicative of a disease in the patient’s renal system that leaks excess protein, such as glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome. All of these diseases can lead to increased renal tubular filtration permeability and increased leakage of microprotein, ultimately leading to increased 24-hour urinary microprotein excretion. These conditions usually indicate the presence of medical renal disease, which is usually combined with microscopic hematuria in addition to high microprotein. Or sometimes the patient may have hypoproteinemia, as well as hypertension.
