The three main manifestations of hepatic encephalopathy are abnormalities of the higher nervous function center, motor abnormalities and reflex abnormalities. Hepatic encephalopathy is a syndrome caused by severe liver disease or portal-body shunt, which is mainly characterized by three major manifestations: abnormalities of the higher nervous function center, motor abnormalities and reflex abnormalities. Mild mental retardation can be found in mild cases, while consciousness disorder, behavioral disorders and coma can be found in severe cases. The clinical staging of hepatic encephalopathy is divided into five phases, including latent phase, prodromal phase, pre-comatose phase, lethargic phase and comatose phase, and different symptoms may appear in different periods. Patients with hepatic encephalopathy need prompt treatment, correcting electrolyte disorders under the guidance of specialized doctors, preventing and controlling infections and other measures, keeping the bowels open and using sedative drugs with caution.
