Enuresis is often referred to as “bedwetting”. Urine loss is very common in children over the age of 5 (4 to 5 children in a class of 100). Therefore, it is likely that there are other children in the same class with the same problem. However, no one will be happy to talk about the problem, so you will not know who else in the class has the problem, and the other children will not know that you wet the bed. The urine (pee) that we normally produce is produced by the kidneys and stored by the bladder. The bladder is like an elastic balloon, and when it is full, it sends a signal to the brain telling you that you need to urinate. In the case of a child with enuresis, once you fall asleep, the bladder doesn’t send a strong and clear enough message that you know you need to urinate. As a result, you don’t wake up from your sleep and bedwetting happens.
