It is not good to pick at your ears every day.
The external auditory canal is rich in hair follicles and sebaceous glands, and contains ceruminous glands, which are similar to the structure of sweat glands and can secrete cerumen. The cerumen secreted by the ceruminous glands and sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands mix with the exfoliated epithelium of the external auditory canal skin to form waxy cerumen, which can inhibit fungi and bacteria in the external auditory canal. When there is a lack of cerumen due to frequent ear picking, the external auditory canal loses its antimicrobial barrier and is therefore susceptible to disease.
There is little subcutaneous tissue in the external auditory canal, and the skin is almost attached to the cartilage membrane and periosteum, so when infected and swollen, it is easy to cause nerve endings to be compressed and cause severe pain. Picking at the ear can cause bacteria or fungi to enter the epidermis or even the dermis and cause infection if the skin is scratched.
When you have the habit of picking your ears every day, or feel discomfort in the ear, and need to pick your ears every day, you need to quit this habit, or actively seek medical attention, improve the examination to clarify the cause, and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
