Bivalent usually refers to the bivalent HPV vaccine. The bivalent HPV vaccine can also be given for pre-cancerous cervical lesions, provided that HPV types 16 and 18 infection is not present.
High-risk HPV (human papillomavirus) is a major contributor to cervical lesions and cervical cancer in women. HPV vaccination can make women’s body produce HPV antibodies, which can effectively prevent women from being infected by HPV, thus avoiding cervical lesions.
There are many subtypes of high-risk HPV, all of which have the risk of causing cervical lesions in women. If a woman already has pre-cancerous cervical lesions, she can also get the HPV vaccine, which can prevent other subtypes of HPV infection, thus preventing further damage to the cervix.
The bivalent HPV vaccine can prevent infections of both HPV16 and HPV18 subtypes. If a woman already has HPV infections of these two subtypes in her cervix, it is not recommended to take the bivalent HPV vaccine because the HPV vaccine can only prevent the virus, not treat it.
Women with pre-cancerous cervical lesions must actively seek medical consultation and treatment. It is recommended to consult a specialized doctor for specific cases.
