Ophiopogon belongs to the heart, lung and stomach meridians, with a sweet, slightly bitter flavor and slightly cold nature. It has the effect of moistening the lung and nourishing yin, clearing the heart and removing vexation, benefiting the stomach and generating fluids, and can be used for dry lung and dry cough, paralysis of the throat and sore throat (pharynx is red, swollen and painful, or dry, with a feeling of foreign bodies, or pharyngeal itchiness and discomfort, and difficulty in swallowing), and coughing with labor in yin deficiency. It is often used in combination with asparagus to treat dry cough due to yin deficiency (deficiency of the body’s yin, resulting in dryness of the lungs not being moisturized).
This product can also be used for gastric yin deficiency (deficiency of yin fluid in the stomach), internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied by excessive eating, drinking and urination), thirst and fluid damage, and intestinal dryness and constipation. It is often used together with Yuju, Radix et Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, etc., to treat heat injury to stomach yin, dry mouth and tongue.
