Yang deficiency of the heart and lungs can be seen as coldness in front of the heart and tightness at the back; it affects the middle jiao, leading to weakening of the transport and digestion function of the spleen and stomach, resulting in loss of appetite or indigestion of food and drink; and deficiency of zong qi, resulting in shortness of qi and lack of strength.
In this formula, Astragalus is used to benefit Qi and elevate it, Ginger warms Yang Qi, Angelica Sinensis promotes Qi and Blood circulation, Gui Zhi warms Yang and channels the veins, and Glycyrrhiza glabra harmonizes all the herbs (harmonizes the medicinal properties of different Chinese medicines).
