The disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown origin involving the skin, hair follicles, nails and mucous membranes, mostly in middle-aged people, with a characteristic rash manifesting as purplish-red polygonal flat papules and plaques, usually on the wrists, forearms, distal lower extremities and presacral region, with patients feeling pruritic. Histologic manifestations include liquefied basal cell degeneration and superficial mid-dermal lymphocytic infiltration. Different treatment methods are used depending on the condition. As some drugs taken by oneself such as thiazide diuretics and antimalarials can induce this disease, it is necessary to stop or reduce the dosage of the drugs under the guidance of a doctor. Glucocorticoids are more effective in treating this disease, but these drugs have more side effects on the body, so they should be used under the guidance of a doctor. Dialectical treatment in Chinese medicine is a safer treatment option. If the disease is relatively mild, it can be treated by Chinese medicine. Physical therapy is more effective including cryotherapy, laser, and narrow-wave ultraviolet. If the condition is heavy, glucocorticoid treatment is to be preferred. If the condition is mild, Chinese medicine and physical therapy are used in conjunction with treatment. It can be a good treatment for lichen planus.
