Is it safer to remove thyroid cancer without puncture?

Puncture examination for thyroid cancer generally does not cause exacerbation of the disease, so there is no statement that “those who don’t have puncture are safer”, and the pathologic findings after fine-needle aspiration are the basis for confirming the diagnosis. At present, it is believed that fine-needle aspiration examination does not increase the risk of metastasis or dissemination of thyroid cancer. On the contrary, if fine-needle aspiration is properly applied, thyroid cancer can be more accurately diagnosed, and the puncture of suspicious enlarged lymph nodes can also help to confirm whether the cancer has metastasized to lymph nodes. The diagnosis of thyroid cancer is mainly based on clinical manifestations, the nature of thyroid lumps, whether the cervical lymph nodes are enlarged or not, the rapid enlargement of thyroid lumps that have existed for many years in a short period of time, as well as ultrasonography, etc. Fine-needle aspiration examination can help to diagnose the cancer. Therefore, thyroid cancer patients should decide whether or not to undergo puncture examination under the guidance of specialized physicians according to their own conditions.
