How long does it take to get a period after an IUD?

Normally, the placement of the IUD does not affect the timing of menstruation, so the timing of menstruation after the IUD follows the woman’s own menstrual pattern. In the process of placing the IUD, some of the endometrium may be damaged and some women may experience irregular periods. The IUD is a foreign body in the uterus, so the uterus may contract unnaturally, which may lead to excessive or prolonged menstrual bleeding for two to three months after the IUD is placed. However, it varies from person to person and does not occur in all cases. If you do not get your period after the IUD is placed, or if you do not get your period after a month, you should go to the gynecology clinic for further examination. The first is to rule out the possibility of pregnancy and the second is to see if the position of the device is normal. If you do not have a period, you can have a hormone test and get symptomatic treatment according to the results. In addition, it should be noted that intercourse is usually not recommended immediately after the IUD, but after two weeks, the position of the IUD in the body should be reviewed and there are no abnormalities before intercourse.
