If the perforation is small, it can heal by itself through conservative treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs and local drops; if the perforation is large and conservative treatment is not effective, tympanic membrane repair is required. Under general anesthesia, an incision is made in the ear or behind the ear and the temporalis fascia is taken as the graft bed for tympanic membrane repair, and the exposed position of the tympanic membrane perforation is then trimmed and placed into the graft bed. In the internal implantation method, the fascia is placed inside the perforated tympanic membrane, while in the external implantation method, the fascia is placed outside the perforated tympanic membrane, and fillers are placed in the middle tympanic chamber and external auditory canal to compress the fascia to make it flatter and promote healing later.
