How to test for Helicobacter pylori

H. pylori can be detected by breath test, fecal examination, gastroscopy and other methods. Currently, breath test and fecal examination are more commonly used in clinical practice. 1. Breath test: H. pylori can be detected by asking the patient to take carbon 13 or 14 labeled urea capsule and detecting the isotope content in the exhaled gas. 2. Stool test: The patient’s stool can be examined, which is convenient and quick. 3. Gastroscopy: Gastroscopy can be used to take part of the gastric mucosa tissue for urease test or histologic examination for diagnosis. 4. Serologic antibody test: H. pylori can be detected by drawing blood and testing the antibody level in the patient’s blood. However, it is not possible to determine whether it is a current infection or a previous infection. Patients should go to regular hospitals and choose appropriate testing methods under the guidance of doctors.
