A visual acuity of 1.2 is equivalent to a visual acuity of 5.1, which is measured with a decimal recording visual acuity chart and a standard logarithmic visual acuity chart. Visual acuity of 1.2 is usually measured with a decimal recording visual acuity chart, which is less commonly used in clinical practice, and we currently use a standard logarithmic visual acuity chart, the New Vision Chart. A visual acuity of 1.2 is usually expressed as 5.1 on the New Vision Scale. This new version of the visual acuity chart retains the viewing angles and standard distances of the old version, but increases the original single visual acuity scale to two visual acuity scales. It allows for a somewhat less difficult visual acuity determination and also improves the chances of guessing the first line of the reticle correctly. The new visual acuity chart is more accurate in determining visual acuity.
