Is Gleevec a chemotherapy drug?

The chemical name of Gleevec is Imatinib Mesylate Tablets. Broadly speaking, it is a small molecule chemically synthesized drug, which should be considered a chemotherapy drug, but it is different from the common chemotherapy drugs, which are often referred to as targeted therapeutic drugs. The chemotherapeutic drugs that people usually talk about, whether they are extracted from plants or synthesized by chemical methods, can kill all cells, i.e. not only cancer cells but also normal cells, while Glivec is also synthesized by chemical methods, but its therapeutic effect only targets cancer cells with abnormal and enhanced tyrosine kinase gene activity, and has no effect on cells with normal kinase gene activity. It can only kill the abnormal cancer cells, but not the normal cells. Therefore, Gleevec is both a chemotherapy drug and different from the usual chemotherapy drugs.
