Is there a self-test for esophagitis?

There is no self-test for esophagitis. Once there is a high suspicion of esophagitis, endoscopic examination, such as esophagoscopy and gastroscopy, or X-ray barium meal examination, 24-hour esophageal PH (acid-base) test and esophageal manometry examination should be performed.

1. The preferred examination method for esophagitis is endoscopy, including esophagoscopy and gastroscopy, which can directly visualize the lesions of the esophageal mucosa, such as congestion, edema and erosion.

2. X-ray barium meal examination: if the patient can not accept gastroscopy, X-ray barium meal examination can be used, which generally can see gross disorder or ulcerative lesions of esophageal mucosa, but the sensitivity to esophagitis is poor.

3. 24-hour esophageal PH (acid-base) test: A portable PH (acid-base) recorder should be used to test the patient’s 24-hour esophageal PH (acid-base), to clarify whether there is excessive acid or alkali reflux in the esophagus.

4. Pressure measurement of the esophagus can help to assess esophageal function, especially in patients with therapeutic difficulties.

If esophagitis is suspected, it is recommended to consult a doctor for timely and targeted treatment under the guidance of the doctor, do not take medication on your own to avoid delay.
