Herbal Remedies for White Phlegm

Chinese herbal formulas that can be used to treat white phlegm include Er Chen Tang and Half-summer Lung Warming Tang, but there are no Chinese herbal formulas that specialize in treating white phlegm. Er Chen Tang has the effects of drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm from the body with dampness-drying medicines), regulating qi and harmonizing the middle (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach, so as to make the functions of the spleen and stomach smooth). It is mainly used for treating dampness-phlegm syndrome. Symptoms include cough with excessive phlegm, white color, nausea and vomiting, chest and diaphragm congestion, heavy limbs (weakness and heaviness of limbs), or dizziness and palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic). Er Chen Tang should be used with caution for those with dry phlegm; Er Chen Tang is contraindicated for those with vomiting of blood, thirst, yin deficiency and blood deficiency. Semixia Warm Lung Tang is effective in drying dampness and resolving phlegm, lowering rebelliousness and stopping vomiting (stopping the upward rush of gastric qi and stopping vomiting). It is mainly used for treating coldness in the spleen and stomach (spleen and stomach weakness), internal obstruction of phlegm (pathological product formed by impaired metabolism of water and fluid), coldness of chest and abdominal qi, intestinal tinnitus, vomiting of water from the mouth, distension and pain in the coarseness and ribs, and lack of desire for food and drink. If there is any discomfort, it is recommended to consult a doctor promptly. If medication is needed, it should be identified by a doctor and standardized treatment should be prescribed by a doctor.
