What is the Carbon 14 test?

The carbon 14 test, clinically known as the carbon 14 breath test, is used to detect infection with Helicobacter pylori. The test is performed on an empty stomach, and the patient swallows the carbon 14 medication, reacts for a period of time, and then exhales the gas to measure the amount of carbon 14 to determine if the patient is infected with H. pylori. This test is also used for retesting after H. pylori treatment to ensure that the patient has not recently taken acid-suppressing medications, antibiotics, or other medications that cause H. pylori testing. H. pylori is a very common bacterial group in the clinic, and more than half of the people in China are infected with H. pylori. After infection with H. pylori, it is easy to get all kinds of gastric diseases, especially on the occurrence of gastric cancer, and it should be paid enough attention.
