What does a lymph node biopsy mean?

Lymph node biopsy refers to the surgical removal of enlarged lymph nodes and sending them for pathological examination. Based on the pathological results, the cause of the enlarged lymph nodes can be clarified, and symptomatic treatment can be achieved. Lymph node enlargement is a common clinical disease in general surgery. The causes of lymph node enlargement mainly include inflammation, tumor and immune system diseases such as rheumatism. Lymph nodes belong to the immune organs of the body, and when the body is stimulated by the immune system such as inflammation, tumor or rheumatism for a long time, it will cause the lymph nodes to be enlarged repeatedly. If the swollen lymph nodes are caused by inflammation, the swollen lymph nodes will disappear when the inflammation subsides. If the swollen lymph nodes are caused by tumors or immune system diseases such as rheumatism, the swollen lymph nodes will persist. If the lymph nodes persist and do not subside, a lymph node biopsy should be performed to identify the cause of the swollen lymph nodes and to provide symptomatic treatment.
