Identification and treatment of cervical spondylosis in Chinese medicine

Cervical spondylosis belongs to the category of item paralysis in Chinese medicine and can be divided into six types: wind-cold obstruction, wind-cold-damp obstruction, qi stagnation and blood stasis (stagnation of blood due to lack of qi), phlegm-damp obstruction (phlegm and dampness obstructing the smooth flow of the meridians), deficiency of the liver and kidneys (weakness of the liver and kidneys), and deficiency of qi and blood. Wind-cold-dampness obstruction manifests as heavy and weak limbs or pain and numbness, chest tightness, reduced diet, fat tongue coating, teeth marks on the side, and sunken or slippery pulse, which can be treated with Qiangwu Shengshu Tang. Qi stagnation and blood stasis is mainly manifested as pain in the form of stabbing pain, pain in a fixed place, the tongue is purple with petechiae, petechiae, and the pulse is stringy and astringent, and it can be treated with Tonic Yang Returning Five Soup. Patients with phlegm-dampness obstruction manifest as dizziness, headache like wrapping, dark red tongue, thick and greasy moss, slippery pulse, and can be treated with Tianma Hook Teng Drink plus reduction. Liver and kidney deficiency is often manifested as pain, numbness, dry eyes, dizziness and headache, accompanied by lumbar and knee soreness (the feeling of lumbar and knee soreness and weakness), tinnitus and deafness, etc. It can be treated by adding and subtracting Liou Wei Di Huang Tang. Patients with deficiency of qi and blood show numbness of the affected limbs and finger tips, atrophy of hand muscles, and sunken nails without luster, which can be treated with Astragalus, Gui Zhi, Wu Wu Wu Tang. Cervical spondylosis also requires correction of poor posture and reduction of prolonged work at the desk, otherwise the treatment is not effective.
