What causes low platelet distribution width?

A low platelet distribution width indicates a high degree of platelet homogeneity and can be seen in normal individuals as well as in myelopoietic hypoplasia.
Platelet distribution width is often used to indicate the dispersion of platelet volume size, with normal values ranging from 15% to 20%. Reduced platelet distribution width indicates that platelets in the peripheral blood are relatively uniform and of the same size, which can be seen in the normal hematopoietic population, but also can be seen in aplastic anemia and other myelopoietic hypoplasia.
Clinically, low platelet distribution width cannot be used as a single indicator to diagnose the disease, but should be combined with platelet count, average platelet volume and platelet morphology to make a comprehensive judgment.
If you have a low platelet distribution width, do not be overly alarmed, consult a specialist to find out the cause.
