What causes redness on the face?

Facial redness can be caused by a variety of factors, usually including physiological and pathological causes.
Physiological factors such as after strenuous exercise, after drinking alcohol, emotional changes (e.g. anger, blushing, shame, etc.), large temperature changes, etc.; pathological factors include skin allergies, dermatitis, poisoning, suffering from chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, etc.), endocrine disorders and pre-cancer related factors (e.g. carcinoid syndrome, pheochromocytoma, etc.), etc. The causes of facial redness can be diverse.
When the cause cannot be identified and is accompanied by other physical complaints such as nausea, redness of the skin, night sweats and coughing, prompt medical attention should be sought.
