How to treat pulmonary protein deposition

Pulmonary protein deposition is a common lung disease in respiratory medicine, with a high prevalence, mostly due to genetic factors, but also due to inhalation of large amounts of dust, irritating odors, and decreased immune function of the lungs. For this condition, symptomatic treatment is needed: first, for patients with mild disease, conservative treatment with medication, such as oral potassium iodide or dissolving aerosols, is available. Second, for patients with more severe disease, whole lung lavage is recommended, using a double-lumen tracheal tube or fiberscope to do saline lavage of the lung lobes, which is currently the most effective treatment for protein deposition in the lungs.
