How the Heimlich maneuver works in children

The Heimlich Maneuver for children is mostly used as a maneuver to save the choking caused by airway abnormality, which is operated as follows: 1. For children under 1 year of age: the rescuer places the infant face down so that his/her body is placed on the arm and leaning on the knee. The rescuer’s arm is attached to the chest, the thumb and the remaining four fingers are stuck in the position of the jawbone, and the other hand is tapped on the infant’s back between the two shoulder blades for 5 times; then the infant is turned over, and in the infant’s lower part of the sternum, the forefinger and the middle finger are pressed on the chest for 5 times until the foreign body is spit out. 2.1 years old and above children’s operation: stand or sit behind the baby, arms around the baby’s abdomen, one hand holding a hollow fist, so that the thumb is placed downward between the navel and the sternum, the other hand tightly held the fist, fast and hard backward and upward impact on the abdomen, 6 to 8 times for a cycle, so that the baby coughing, drive out the foreign body. Pay attention to the strength and direction of the operation to prevent damage to the organs. A cycle after the effect is not obvious, rest can be repeated after the impact, until the foreign body is discharged.
