What to do if your baby accidentally swallows a fish spike

If your baby swallows a fish spike by mistake, you should determine if it is stuck in the throat. If you observe your baby crying or pointing to the throat with your finger, you may have a fish spike stuck in the throat. It is usually recommended to go to a hospital, usually to the ENT department, to find the fish spike and remove it by laryngoscopy. If the fish spike is swallowed into the gastrointestinal tract, the baby’s symptoms should be observed. If there is no abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or other gastrointestinal discomfort, the baby should drink more water, eat more vegetables and fruits and keep the stool open. If there is frequent abdominal pain and the pain is frequent at a certain painful point, the fish spike may be stuck in one of the gastrointestinal tracts and must be removed by gastroscopy or open surgery.
