Notes on inguinal hernia surgery for centenarians: With the improvement of living conditions, there are more and more senior patients, and the number of senior patients I have treated has increased from the 80s to the 90s. A year ago, a case of a centenarian patient came to the clinic, and the patient was 100 years old after the year. The patient was suffering from inguinal hernia and was refused at other hospitals in Nanjing and told that it was inoperable. But the patient could not hernia just by walking and fell down, what should we do? For this patient, we had to take individualized treatment measures: we avoided general anesthesia and used local anesthesia, and we paid attention to the patient before and after the operation to keep him warm and avoid catching a cold. At the same time, during the surgery, we kept talking and communicating with the patient to find out if he had any discomfort. We used the most direct surgical approach and completed the surgery in half an hour, and the patient felt very well and was discharged successfully after the surgery. Therefore, we believe that for inguinal hernia, the patient’s age is not a contraindication to surgery, but the main thing is to use the appropriate surgical approach to ensure the patient’s recovery.
