Foot and mouth disease is an acute, febrile, highly contagious disease caused by the foot and mouth disease virus and is a zoonotic disease that predominantly infects animals, such as pigs, cattle, sheep and other domestic animals, and occasionally can be transmitted to humans, mainly in the form of fever and blisters/ulcers on the mouth and hands and feet, with children at high risk of infection.
