About testicular and epididymal emergencies

About epididymal and testicular emergencies: Recently, we have seen a number of patients with epididymitis and testicular torsion, among which there were two cases of testicular torsion, unfortunately, both patients with testicular torsion had their affected testicles removed due to testicular necrosis. If patients with epididymitis can distinguish between epididymis and testis during palpation, the diagnosis will not be misdiagnosed; misdiagnosis often occurs between epididymitis and testicular torsion, at this time, in addition to the patient’s performance, physical signs and the doctor’s clinical experience, immediate emergency color Doppler examination of the spermatic cord of the affected testis is very necessary, which can basically identify whether it is epididymitis or testicular torsion. If the testicular torsion can be diagnosed within six hours, especially within four hours of the onset of the disease, timely surgery or manual repositioning can save the life of the testicle. If the testicle is not treated in time, the testicle on the affected side will be necrotic due to prolonged ischemia and can only be removed. Therefore, it is necessary to perform color Doppler examination on every patient with testicular and epididymal emergencies, which can significantly reduce the rate of orchiectomy in patients with testicular torsion.
