How to treat pituitary macroadenoma

The treatment of pituitary macroadenomas is mainly based on the nature of the macroadenoma. First of all, it is necessary to complete the head magnetic resonance and hormone complete set of examination to clarify which nature of macroadenoma. If it is a lactating macroadenoma, it can be treated with oral bromocriptine in the early stage. During the course of taking bromocriptine, head MRI and hormone examination need to be reviewed dynamically to assess the effect of treatment. If medication is ineffective, surgical treatment will need to be considered. For other types of macroadenomas, surgical treatment is mainly used, and the patient’s condition needs to be fully evaluated before the surgery, such as the patient’s general status, and whether there is any relevant past medical history, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and pulmonary heart disease. Meanwhile, head CT should also be perfected to assess the bone destruction in the saddle region and decide the treatment plan comprehensively.
